How to calculate Body Mass Index

Body Mass Index is a simple calculation using a person's height and weight. It is calculated as BMI is kg / m 2. where kg represents a person's weight in kilograms and M 2 represents their height measured in meters squared.

If you have a BMI over 25.0 or more indicates overweight, while the healthy range is 18.5 to 24.9. BMI is applicable to the majority of adults 18-65 years.

Who should not use a BMI calculator

BMIis is not suitable for muscle building as well as long distance athletes, pregnant women, the young or elderly. This is because BMIdoes do not take into account how much weight carried in the result of fat or muscle, but rather the amount. Those with a higher muscle mass, such as athletes, could have a high BMI but not be more at risk of health problems. If you have a lower mass, such as children who have not yet completed their growth or who may be losing some muscle mass could have smaller BMI. During pregnancy and lactation, a woman's body composition is altered, therefore, the use of BMI is not appropriate.
